The Training of Kings
1 Samuel 16
11 And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”
And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” 12 So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
After Samuel, anointed David as King, he waited for many years before it could all manifest. God saw David’s heart and it was the heart of a king. David was a man after God’s heart and that’s another aspect that compelled the Most High to make him a king in place of Saul. However, David did not have the character and the training of a king yet! Remember, character is acquired. God made David go through intense training during all those years of waiting in order to equip him as a successful king. David learned the act of fighting for his nation, the virtues of patience and perseverance as he had to tolerate Saul for so long. He also learned the virtue of honour as he fully respected Saul and recognised that, even though he had been rejected by God, he had been anointed once before as king. God fully brought David from the grazing field to the battle field and when he fully completed his training and satisfied God’s heart, Saul was murdered in war and David ascended the throne as a successful king!
God makes everything beautiful when the time is right! How many of you have had beautiful revelations about your or your children’s future but have had to wait for so long? It will surely come to pass but during your waiting time, equip yourself and help your children to do the same according to the revelation you received because that training is needed to move to the next level.
