The Offerings of Cain and Abel
Genesis 4: 2 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
Cain brought an offering of the crops he grew to the Most High. The Bible doesn’t mention the condition they were in but one thing is certain. They were not first fruits! Abel on the hand brought of the first of his produce and their fat to the Most High. He simply offered the best to the Lord without waiting until his flocks produced more! Abel did not give according to his multitude but he gave God the best of all he had – his FIRST-FRUITS and God honoured his sacrifice and rejected Cain’s. How many of us give God our untainted best? There is great power in the mystery of the first fruits!
