The Prayer of Jabez
The God Who Breaks Yokes of Limitation
Limitations are inevitable in our daily walk in life. However, it’s important not to let the limitations you encounter determine your destiny or define who you are. Limitations can be grouped into two significant categories: changeable and unchangeable.
These are limitations which are temporary and can be improved or changed all together depending on the person in question. Examples of changeable limitations are: education/academic, language barrier, accommodation, jobs/careers, mental etc.
A person who is limited academically can choose to go back to school/college and improve their level of education. Language barrier can be broken by learning different languages. One can change their accommodations/homes through hard work. Jobs and careers can be changed too either through seeking promotions or studying further to get a better career. Mental limitations pose as demoting thoughts. This can be eradicated by surrounding yourself with positive minded people and blocking demoting speech and thoughts.
While Changeable limitations can slow down our progress in life, it’s vital to be aware of their temporary nature which can be broken all together by following the right channels and steps.
These limitations are the ones whereby we have no power over. Examples of Unchangeable limitations are: society/birth, disability, race, gender etc.
No single person has any power to decide where they are born. The place or family where you are born can impose life long limitations depending on your upbringing.
Jabez was a man in the Bible who found himself in the category of Unchangeable limitations. He did not let that fact define or determine his destiny. He called on the name of the God who breaks yokes of limitations by faith and He heard him!
9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name [c]Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my [d]territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
It is important to know that with God all things are possible. Like Jabez, if presented with limitations which after evaluating, you determine that you have no power over, call on the name of the God who breaks the yokes of limitations with all your heart and He will answer you. The Bible clearly says that in ‘Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.’
He doesn’t judge and see us the way society does. If you discover that your limitations are Changeable, work towards eradicating them. Stay determined and focused and in good time, you will be free. It’s also very important to remember that, it’s never too late for a change!
